The Complete Idiot's Guide to Celtic Wisdom
      • Carl McColman / Paperback / Published 2003
      • To be released on May 6, 2003
      • Amazon Price: $13.27, Savings: $5.68 (30%)

      • Many folks may already be familiar with Carl's other book "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Paganism". This is the latest in his Complete Idiot's Guide series, this time about Celtic Wisdom. Carl and I have worked together on quite a few projects now, and it was really fun to be able to do this cover for him! (-Cari)

Celtic Art: From Its Beginnings to the Book of Kells
      • Ruth Megaw and Vincent Megaw / Paperback / Published 2001
      • Usually ships in 24 hours
      • Amazon Price: $24.47, Savings: $10.48 (30%)

      • As a Celtic artist I'm always on the search for books speficially on Celtic art, not just the Celtic people in general. This book by the Megaw's is the best I've found yet, giving lots of impartial information without romantic colorings about 'mystical meanings' and such. Just a great overview of how the art style is thought to have evolved, how it changes throught history, and lots of great photos. And a word on the photos of artifacts... many of these photos are 'new', in the sense that they're not the same ten images you see in every other book about the Celts. New photos of new artifacts not often shared with in publications. Great for Celtic artists who enjoy checking out ancient artifacts to use as source material and to track the evolution of its design and patterns! I recommend this book very highly for anyone who wants to know more about Celtic art history. (-Cari)

Irish Wedding Traditions : Using Your Irish Heritage to Create the Perfect Wedding
      • Shannon McMahon Lichte, Patricia Brentano (Illustrator) / Hardcover / Published 2001
      • Usually ships within 24 hours
      • Amazon Price: $14.00, Savings: $6.00 (30%)

      • Including sections such as : Adding a Touch of the Irish to Your Wedding Day, Courtship and Engagement Customs, Wedding Vows and Blessings, Planning the Reception, Good-Luck traditions, Charms, and Rituals, Symbolic Flowers, Food, Decor, and Song. A beautifully put together little book, full of information on Irish courtship, engagement, and wedding traditions designed to help you plan your Irish wedding. The Aon Celtic Art site is listed at the back of this book as a resource on Celtic styled artwork and clip art, and as well I provided a bit of info in the chapter about the Celtic Cross (although they've got my name spelt wrong, and differently, both times!). ;-) (-Cari)

    The Ancient Celts
      • Barry Cunliffe / Hardcover / Published 1997
      • Usually ships within 24 hours
      • Amazon Price: $49.95

      • Barry does a super job with this book, keeping an objective view of the Celts and their history. It's also very well written, not nearly as dry a read as most history discussions are! He covers the Halstatt era to the invasion of the Romans so far as the history goes, and the photography references in the book are really well shot and there are some photos included that aren't in the 'usual selection' that you see in most Celtic books. So great for reference too. (-Cari)

Celtic Myth & Legend : An A-Z of People and Places
      • Mike Dixon-Kennedy / Hardcover / Published 1996
      • Usually ships in 24 hours
      • Amazon Price: $10.47, Savings: $4.48 (30%)

      • This is a pretty complete book, with short listings of gods and heros in Celtic tales, and also includes alternate spellings for names and designations for whether the character is Welsh, Briton, Cornish, Scottish or Irish. The descriptions are rather short, but it covers a whole slew of people, some quite obscure as well, so it seems to really cover the playing field. Good if you're looking for a fast-find definition of a character, but not a whole lot of help if you're needing piles of information on them. (-Cari)

The Celts : Uncovering the Mythic and Historic Origins of Western Culture
      • Jean Markale / Paperback / Published 1993
      • Usually ships within 2-3 days
      • Amazon Price: $10.47, Savings: $4.48 (30%)

      • This is a book that I'm working my way through now, and is one of the better that I've read. He uses a nice blend of folk tale, religion, and history (right down to a whole lot of commentaries from Caesar and other Roman folk who fought or encountered the Celts), to discuss the origins and migrations of various Celtic cultures, and how they influenced others around them. Definitely not a light read, this book is full of historical facts and dates, and he uses everything from linguistics to folks tale styles, to art to present his theories. I'm finding this book very neat to read, as it gives more than the standard fluff that you generally get with "about the Celts" books. It also has a tiny chapter (my favorite section in the whole book!) on ancient Celtic poetry...beautiful stuff! (-Cari)

    Women of the Celts
      • Jean Markale / Paperback / Published 1986
      • Ships in 2-3 days
      • Amazon Price: $13.97, Savings: $5.98 (30%)

      • As usual Jean Markale (same as above) gives a thorough discussion on Celtic women in history and myth. I would have liked to see even more on the historical end of things, but there's limited information on that so I know he hasn't got much to work with there. He does give a thorough comparison and description of many ancient myths involving women, both in Celtic myth and Arthurian myth, which was interesting to read. Many of those I'd never heard of before, so it was great to not only read them but to see how they compared or perhaps even originated from others. (-Cari)

Holy Ground : Celtic Christian Spirituality
      • Deborah Cronin / Paperback / Published 1999
      • Usually ships within 2-3 days
      • Amazon Price: $8.00, Savings: $2.00 (20%)

      • The book I think can best be described as a good look at both sides of the fence - old Celtic ways, and the new Christian ways, and how they compare. It looks at todays Christianity through eyes colored by more of a druidic view, with a great emphasis on an appreciation of all things created, rather than just mankind. I think people from either 'side of the fence', either Pagan or Christian, would enjoy the read as the book talks more about the joy of creation in everything, rather than the merits or failings of a particular religion over another or something of that sort. I found it a very openminded and enlightening read. For those who are interested to know...I did all the interior illustrations for this book! (-Cari)
