I had the pleasure of working with Loome Fabrics in the UK to develop repeating tile designs for some new upholstery fabrics for them. The designs they wanted tiles made from where a pair of art nouveau designs they had licensed featuring the artwork of Archibald Knox, an artist I have long admired. It was a challenging project. The samples provided were only small portions of a design created by Archibald, so I had to not only figure out how they may have been expended into a repeating design, but also to make sure that in developing the repeat I stayed true to his style and original work. I have included above a small copy to see how the original looked before it was expanded into the tile repeat.
The next project we worked on was to create a Celtic cross designs that incorporated floral motifs. I creaed a designs that had a feel of the traditional art nouveau designs from back in the day, using Celtic knots and lilies to make a repeating tile pattern.
