Book of Hours

Book of Hours

This is a recreation of a page from a 15th Century Book of Hours. The original manuscript was made in a French/Burgundian Scriptorium, by a single scribe. This recreation is made on real vellum, using real gold leaf and my own handmade egg tempera - the same materials the original was made with. My page is approximately twice the size as the original...which makes the original sized at 11cm x 18cm!

This painting was accepted for Alphamark, a juried international traveling exhibition that toured throughout North America from July 18, 1999 to December 2001. I was one of the very few artists to have 2 pieces accepted for the tour, the other being my Illuminated D painting.
