Illuminated D
The illuminated capital letters of the old manuscripts are clear examples of how the ancient Celts had mastered the art of Illumination. Here I have painted a "D", based closely on a manuscript from the Carolingian era. This painting was accepted for Alphamark, a juried international traveling exhibition that toured throughout North America from July 18, 1999 to December 2001. I was one of the very few artists to have 2 pieces accepted for the tour, the other being my Book of Hours painting.
