Antique Celtic Birds

Antique Celtic Birds

This painting was made at virtually the same time as "Antique Celtic Lions", and was painted to have a matching appearance with the brown and russet colors. Although not from an actual manuscript, the birds are created in the same style as that found in the Book of Kells.

I absolutely love ancient artifacts and archaeology, and this comes through in a lot of my work, I think. Using rich colors, gold leaf, and traditional vellum surfaces (or modern papers with antique staining) was something I did a lot of in my early work.
