Border and Corner Knots!

One of the most amazing aspects of Celtic art is how flexible the designs are. They can be highly detailed, acting as a focus point for a piece of art, or used as a frame or border around central artwork. It can be used as the star of the piece, or as a supporting character. This is why you see so much Celtic art used decade after decade. It is extremely suitable for every- thing from fine art to logos to merchandise.

The Aon dot paper technique helps us explore Celtic art within a simple framework, which opens the door to all these different types of designs and uses.

👉 If you haven’t completed The Complex Knot lesson, I suggest you go through that first as we’ll be using the techniques included there for this lesson.

In each panel I will show you step-by-step how to create a Celtic border or frame, and how tackle corners using the same method. All you need is a pencil, eraser, and a sheet of the Aon dot paper! This technique will allow you to not only re-create the tutorial examples, but it’ll allow you to create new unique designs for use in an infinite variety of projects! I’ve included a sheet at the end of this lesson, but you can also print out a premade copy from my website, at:
